Our Alberta hunts

Alberta's Rockies near Nordegg. Horseback backcountry hunts, the old way.

We hunt Alberta's Rockies, west-central Alberta mountain country near Nordegg. Our territory is a Forest Land Use Zone where motorized vehicles are prohibited, so every hunt is horseback and foot only. Our camp is a set of cabins at the junction of the Blackstone and Wapiabi rivers, about 3.5 hours from both the Calgary and Edmonton airports. We carry on an outfitting tradition that runs more than a hundred years deep in this country. If you want to be a hunter the old way, on horses, out of wall tents, in country a truck can never reach, this is where you do it.

Our territory: horseback only, no motors

The Blackstone and Wapiabi backcountry zone is closed to motorized vehicles, so we run every hunt with horses and on foot out of wall-tent camps. That is not a marketing line, it is the land-use rule for our zone, and it is a large part of why hunters come to us. If the horseback, wall-tent, backcountry experience is what you are chasing, this is it. Read more about the country in our Nordegg and David Thompson Country section.

Payment and booking

We stage the booking: a non-refundable one-third deposit holds your hunt, a second third is due six to eight months out, and the balance is due 31 days before you arrive. Our best hunts fill early, and the moose hunt is capped at four hunters a year, so plan on booking one to two years ahead. See when to book for the full picture.

How to book

Tell us the species, dates and budget you have in mind using the form below. We reply with real numbers, the current allocation and licensing, and we handle the details from there. The best weeks go to the hunters who plan ahead, so the sooner you tell us what you are after, the better your pick of dates.
